| Help my band land the DEVILDRIVER support slot this October |
[Jul. 24th, 2007|12:24 pm] |
Hey guys. As some may or may not not know, DEVILDRIVER are playing Nottingham's Rescue Rooms in October and my band Blood Divided are making a push to get on the bill. All we need you to do is head over to the Rescue Rooms Myspace Page and send them a message asking for us to be considered. You don't have to say anything much, just a few words showing support and maybe a link to our myspace profile at http://www.myspace.com/fuckblooddividded
This would be a major high profile show for us if were were to land the slot and it could help us go a long way. We had a blast playing the recent Raging Speedhorn show and we wanna pick up the pace! So any help you could give us would be awesome. Plus, the gig is the day before my birthday (29, I'm old! Still lagging behind our guitarist Kev though!) so it'd be an incredible way to mark the occaision!
Cheers from Phil and all in Blood Divided.
P.S; Hey Lucy, I know you're mates with Anton. Fancy having a word in his shell-like for us? Haha. ;-) |

Now that England have suffered their inevitable defeat after a string of matches which even the most die-hard died-in-the-wool never-giving-up-hope some-other-hyphenated-adjective fan would consider to be utter WANKSHITBOLLOCKSCRAP can we please see the fucking BACK of this parade of mindless BOLLOCKS?
FOOTBALL IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE ANNIVERSARY OF 20,000 BRITISH WAR DEAD FOOTBALL IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN 60 CIVILIANS BEING SLAUGHTERED BY RELIGIOUS CUNTS FOOTBALL IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIVES BEING RUINED IN ORDER TO MAKE SOME FUCKING ISRAELI COCKSUCKER OF A CIVIL SERVANT LOOK LIKE A DECISIVE GO-GETTER. FOOTBALL IS NOT IMPORTANT FOOTBALL IS A FUCKING GAME FOOTBALL IS A STUPID GAME FOOTBALLERS ARE OVERPAID WANKERS
ENGLAND vs PORTUGAL SERVES NO OTHER PURPOSE OTHER THAN TO CONCLUSIVELY PROVE THAT BECKHAM IS A FUCKING CRYBABY PUSSY AND ROONEY IS A STUPID WANKER. not that i needed any more proof of that or anything......

Damn. this working two jobs thing works in principle, but I'm doing a ridiculous amount of leg mileage as a result. By friday I felt like my pins were about to fall off by the time I got home. Picture my working day: 45 minute walk to B&Q, 4 hours of store walking doing whatever with a 15 minute break, 40 minute walk to next, 15 minute sit down followed by 5 hours of standing around lifting, carrying, etc. With a 15 minute break. Then a 25 minute walk home So thats 9 hours on my feet, 1h:50m of walking and 45minutes of rest. OUCH.
Anyways the B&Q job looks like it'll shape up okay. The job itself is ludicrously easy. I'll be glad when the money comes in though as I'm about £160 into my overdraft. Which I celebrated by getting shitfaced last night. I'm so sensible, still, I had a decent night.
This weekend we've been recording again. This time it was Mel Gimpsuit. A death/grind band from the Mansfield area and a bigger bunch of complete nutters than you would ever hope to meet. The recordings sound reallyreallyreally good. Every time we record a band of this calibre it seems to get easier and sound better. I still think back to when we recorded the last Anaemic demo and wonder just how the hell we made it sound so bad!
We still haven't actually advertised yet. Every time we start talking about flyers and whatnot someone calls us to make a booking. It's a funny old world. |

B&Q have given me a job. Just 20 hours 6-10am but I can work it in around my hours at Next. Loathe as I am to continue working there. Still, that should keep me out of the financial mire I've been stressing over since having my Next contract pruned. |

| New video online |
[Apr. 12th, 2006|04:32 pm] |
Well our last couple of weekends have been both productive and somewhat expensive. We spent 4 days working with the guys from Awoken By Moonlight on their 5-track EP and we finished the vocal recording and mixing work for Red County War Ensemble. Unfortunatly we also succeeded in blowing a tweeter on one of our monitors which means the upgrades we had planned for the near future are gonna have to be pushed forward a little bit!
We're looking at purchasing a pair of these; the Adams P11A. Which will probably cost us about £900+. Gulp! So any business would be much appreciated at this point!

Still, all will be well. Heres a funky video clip from the ABM sessions: Clicky! |

| On the job hunt again |
[Mar. 29th, 2006|04:34 pm] |
Welp, things have truly gone down the shitter at work. The store is making no money, so everyone is having their hours cut. I'm looking at having my contract cut to under 18 hours a week, which frankly I cannot afford to live on. Plus my team is target for nothing but abuse and grief these days and it seems none of us can put a foot wrong without attracting a bollocking for the stupidest of reason. So fuck it, time to jump the sinking ship.
It'd be nice to earn some proper money again anyway. I've no idea how the fuck I've managed as long as I have. |

| | disappointed | ] | I didn't get the job.
John (manager at Soundcontrol) did tell me that even if they didn't offer me this position they would likely have one to offer me within a months time though. Dunno whether I'll bother holding out hope on that front though.
Okay, that thoroughly ruined my week. |

| Canned review before bedtime |
[Feb. 15th, 2006|10:02 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | tired | ] | Some highlights from the life of me over the last couple of weeks:
Saturday 4th: Had Army Of Flying Robots in to record their half of the forthcoming split 7" with Kamikazee, whom we had also recorded a while earlier. Sessions goes pretty well. Got some killer drum sounds even if the takes did drag on quite a bit. Recieve phone call mid-session to be informed that Jonny (my manager at work) has been diagnosed with a hernia and will be off work for 2 weeks on sick leave, followed by a weeks holiday. Jammy bastard! This isn't helped by the knowledge that as the injury isn't severe enough to keep him out of the pub he's been making full use of the free time. Git.
Last Friday: Some little FUCKER tried to break into the house. I come home to find a large hole smashed in the kitchen window and glass everywhere. Further inspection reveals attampts at forcing the windows open. Even more checking reveals they tried to force the doors also as the frames and doors have been gouged and the rear lock damaged. Luckily they didn't succeed, mainly because they appeared to be using a tent peg from our back yard.
I ever catch anyone in my fucking home I swear the little cocksucker will be crawling to safety minus a pair of eyes.
Last Weekend: Finished mix work on the above recordings. Wasn';t so happy with the first mix but after some tweaking it sounds a load better. Went to a gig at the Horn In Hand which was okay, nothing amazing. Gave us a chance to catch up with our one-time temporary band member Chris who now drums for Hangover Heartattack (who we shall be recording soon).
This week has been groovy fun (not) with Jonny being off on the sick and Matt on holiday yours truly has been saddled with the annoying admin jobs at work. It's funny, I don't remember being promoted to manager status, yet it seems I have to perform all the duties of one despite not recieving any bonus for doing so. Twats.
Think I'll go to bed now. Tired.... |

| Well shee-it |
[Jan. 27th, 2006|08:45 pm] |
I'm going in for round two of the Soundcontrol interview process. From what I was told this involves touring the area of responsibility and getting quizzed on product knowledge and stuff.
Don't know how much of a formaility this is, but it's a weight off my chest in any case. Could I see an end to working for Next at last? |

| Studio developments |
[Jan. 26th, 2006|09:35 pm] |
| [ | Current Music |
| | Sepultura - Bottomed Out | ] | Well I worked out exactly how much money Boulty and I have ploughed into the studio over the last couple of months and the total made me shiver a little. It's a big investment for us even if the number is pretty paltry compared to any normal business.
We're getting the place sorted as best we can. The biggest alteration we're making is to the control room. At the moment we're relying on crappy old bedroom desks for the gear which is hardly ideal. So we're constructing a custom setup. Heres the plans of what we're making:
( 3D Images )
Now, if our timber supplier hadn't turned into a massive cockup we would have had this built and completed by the end of the weekend. Of course life is never that simple. The guy who was supposed to be seeing to cutting the pieces to size gave his assurances that all would be taken care of and then promptly fucked off on holiday. So what should have been straightforward has instead turned into a massive pain for all concerned. Still, we have much of the needed materials, we just need the large MDF sections.
So most of my weekend will be spent re-wiring the room electrics to add some new power points and mounting the desk framework. Fun shit. |

| [ | Current Mood |
| | hopeful | ] | Just had my interview for the high-tech dept job at Soundcontrol. It went pretty well. So heres hoping.
I'll know by Friday whether or not I'll be going in for the second interview so no long waits at least. |

|
| Things that should happen today, one way or another |
[Jan. 14th, 2006|11:20 am] |
1: I'm expecting a call from John at Soundcontrol (formerly Academy Of Sound) to arrange a job interview. w00t! 2: A new mixing desk will be acquired so Bob can have his own back with a minimum of hassle. We have our eyes on a couple of ebay prospects which looks pretty good. 3: I'm gonna get massively hammered.
So all in all a productive day should be had to add to the list of productive days I've had this week. Like on thursday night where I watched 8 episodes of Battlestar Galactica (series 2) back to back.
Well, I didn't have anything better to do.... |

| First band: done |
[Jan. 10th, 2006|03:51 pm] |
We finished recording a 7-track EP for Notts spazznoids Kamikazee last night. Give the tracks on their Myspace page a whirl if you like your grind short, violent and raucous. We also have a track available via our studio portfolio page at http://studio.flatnet.net/portfolio.php
All in all it turned out really well and both us and the band were well pleased with the end result. Let this be the start of many similar results to come. |

| Welcome to 2006 |
[Jan. 1st, 2006|10:53 am] |
|
Well I hope you all have, if not a happy new year, then at least one with a measure of increased success and hope than the last.
This year will see a number of plans hatched by Boulty & myself take shape. The breakup of our band Anæmic was a blow and a severe disappointment after so many years, but we're gonna turn that floundered ship around. Over the last month we've collectively spent nearly £600 on new microphones and over the coming months we will do our damnedest to make that investment pay for itself. As studio ventures go we're starting with humble beginnings but we have no intention of remaining that way.
So, for us, 2006 will rotate around this: Stuck On A Name Recordings
You can read the site for details of what we're providing for bands and such. With a little from word of mouth and a lot of help from selective plugging we will hopefully make a good name for ourselves. And eventually, we might actually make this our living. You have to have a goal, and one thing we both know is that we don't want to spend the rest of our working lives as someone elses undervalued employee.
As far as our own music goes, we're working on new songs with me on drums. And we may be forming some kind of grindcore project with others we know. We'll see how that all works out.
For the curious, ( Heres where that money was spent ) |

| 2005 - A Year In Review |
[Dec. 20th, 2005|10:44 am] |
Written by The Bridge Sunday, 18 December 2005
Since I have a problem remembering much beyond my most recent experiences this may not be a full year-in-review type review. Here's what I observed in 2005 not in any particular order and flowing freely from my brainhole with no rhyme or reason.
- Jack Black is a genius
- There is a war that everyone is pissed about
- John Mayer finally hooked up with a good band and is now making the music he was born to make
- Bono still needs to shut up
- Some chick whose son died in Iraq has gone all 1960s on us and has replaced Paris Hilton on slow news days
- Nick and Jessica something or other
- The Bird Flu. Yeah, so? Don't they all?
- The Office and My Name is Earl have moved to Thursday
- Hollywood loves gay cowboys
- The rest of America seems to not like gay cowboys
- Bill Cower did not listen to his mother and his face froze like that
- King Kong has good taste in broads
- The guys at Orange County Choppers make some butt ugly choppers. How did they get a show anyway?
- Howard Stern is a 15 year old man making 100 million dollars a year
- The previous observation proves that Robert Johnson wasn't just telling a story
- Racism is more powerful than hurricanes
- Ashlee Simpson still sucks
- Evidently the holocaust never happened
- Burger King's marketing department scored some really good acid
- The BCS still doesn't work
- Cows kill salmon
- Mike Holmgren is not Andy Reid
- Kurt Cobain is still dead
- Ricky Williams smokes too much
- We all learned that if the tide suddenly goes out 5 miles it's not necessarily an invitation to dig clams
- We also learned that when the tide comes back in there are really cool videos to download
- Neil Young can do anything and it will rock
- Brittney Spears is the wealthiest trailer skank living today
- Tom Cruise has lost any contact with reality
- Katie Holmes holds the key to the closet
- Flava Flave's brain is still in critical condition
- $1.89 for gas is a good find
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
I love you all, The Bridge |
